THE GABLES, DURHAM.

Nestled away in the quaint little village of Escomb in County Durham is the North East’s wedding industry’s best kept secret.

When Zoe and Dan got in touch with me to capture their wedding day, their planned day looked a lot different to how it ended up, but you’ll get no complaints from myself, or the special couple.

Initially to be held at one of the regions well known venues, Zoe and Dan were left bewildered and panicked when the venue (which I won’t name, for obvious reasons) had double booked their chosen date, after having to rearrange due to COVID. This left the couple without a venue for their wedding and They were now down their deposit for the initial booking.

After a little time and probably very stressful weeks of searching, Zoe contacted me with the news she and her husband to be had found the perfect little venue, The Gables.

Now, I’m very familiar with County Durham, so much so that when told it was in a the little village of High Escomb, I couldn’t imagine where it could of been, luckily for me Chanel Four were about to step in and help me out.

To familiarise myself with the venue, I watched Sue & Mike clean up on “Four in a Bed”... I was sold! I could see this little place had the potential to become a intimate & beautiful little Wedding venue, Sue and Mike have clearly been busy, delivering in every way imaginable.

Upon arriving at the venue I was absolutely blown away by the attention to detail Sue and Mike have put into this, every single thing hand made by themselves, from a wooden shed chapel to a horse box gin bar, if intimacy is what you are after then I can’t suggest it enough.

Now as a photographer I am used to working with the usual restrictions of what you can’t do rather than what you can, But not at the gables. I was given full reign of the site which resulted in some of the best images I have ever taken, the intimacy of the venue means I felt like part of the wedding party, mingling amongst guest and capturing candid shots.

“Above all, I left this venue feeling like The Gables is a rarity in the wedding business, a helpful family run passion rather than a money making machine & I can’t wait to be back there again soon“
